This song is stalking me…

rain.jpgSo last Thursday, I get in my car to run an errand and Mercy Me’s “Bring the Rain” is playing. “How appropriate”, I thought. So, Sandi and I get in the car to go to the oncologist and I told her about it and played it for her from my iPod. After the oncologist visit, we get back in the car and it is playing on the radio again. What? Later that night, I am picking up Derek from soccer practice and I here it AGAIN! OK, God, I get it. I know it’s “raining” and yes, I agree, you will get all the glory. I am just a vessel for your work. Here is the chorus:

Bring me joy, bring me peace
Bring the chance to be free
Bring me anything that brings
You glory And I know there’ll
be days When this life brings me pain
But if that’s what it takes to
praise You Jesus, bring the rain

So, for all of you have who have never heard it, that may only be two of you, here is Mercy Me with “Bring the Rain”.

  1. Great song…excellent group!!!! To God be the glory…in everything! Thanks for sharing this Stef!

Fervently praying for you and the family.

  2. Since the day I first listened to “Coming Up To Breathe”, this song has “struck a chord” (sorry) with me. It has been a challenge that I am still not sure I am ready to say openly. To step in the face of the unknown and give God full control, (good, bad or otherwise) is amazing. It’s hauntingly brave but in my mind, the highest level of faith and commitment. To say WHATEVER you bring me, as long as it brings you glory is incredible. You are doing that my friend.

I heard this at least 3 times while I was in San Antonio after I got your original call. Like I told you today, I heard it 2 times within an hour yesterday as well. It is my favorite song by them and has become a lifesong prayer.

As an aside, when they did it in concert back in November, they weren’t 2 notes into the intro and I was on my feet with my hands raised and tears streaming down my face. Might have been the only dude in the joint standing, but I didn’t care. I was ready to let the Lord know I was available.

Thanks for sharing your journey and for this song.

  3. What a message this song brings home! It is one of the best. “Bring me anything that brings you glory.” Thanks Stef. Larry

  4. After hearing your news late last week, and having an understanding of what it is that afflicts you (I have had 2 family members diagnosed with stage 4 colon cancer and my father with stage 1 seven years ago), I must admit that I was truly deflated. However, in finally getting the chance to speak with you on Saturday (i.e. the Ringer call), I sensed your strength and it truly lifted my spirits. Isn’t it ironic that the one confronting the difficulty is the blessing to the one on the outside looking in. I am always amazed at how God’s grace is beyond sufficient in all times, but particularly in times of deepest need. We are all on a journey, you just happen to be at a major traffic jam right now. We will be praying and telling others to pray extensively that the traffic will subside and you will be able to get your vehicle moving again. Hackers 2007 will not be the same as a result of your absence as well as others, but it will make defeating you in 2008 that much more meaningful!!

  5. Just wanted you to know that our church in northeast Georgia is lifting you up. We have several people that blog and one of them found your site. His grace is sufficient and His strength is made perfect in our weakness. God bless you and your family.

  6. Stef,

I go to NW Bible and have known Sandi through the preschool ministry. When I saw your prain chain “announcement” I was stunned and brought to tears. I see God’s power through your positive attituded and strength. My husband and I will be praying for complete healing and that God’s Will be done. On another note, I used to work for a company in Dublin called NeoProbe Corporation. They are a biotech company that does cancer research and have products to help detect and destroy cancer. Their website is http://www.neoprobe.com. You might want to check them out as far as treatment is concerned. Again, we will be praying constantly for you and your family.

  7. Stef-
You are such an inspiration! I will continue to pray for you and your family.

  8. Stef,

From my family to yours we are praying for you everyday. I look forward to hearing your updates and watching our Great God work.

  9. oh man…talk about getting smacked in the face by GOD…awesome

  10. Stefan,

WOW!…for so many reasons. .. the news…your courage…and your graceful faith…they’ve journeyed my mind through so many emotions, feelings and prayers!

In testament to you…a christian man doing the best he can…let me recall the visit you made to our office and mine (as well as my co-workers) lasting impression of a man who wore an aura of humility, a man who sincerely displayed an appreciation to all he met. A man who made an impression, described by …he’s just such a gracious, genuine guy! The graciousness I perceived then (as well as that displayed to Dan & I during our October visit ) is reaffirmed with what I have experienced visiting your site. We have been blessed with the opportunity to cross paths with you and I AM CERTAIN that GOD will bless you in this!!!

Okay, I must admit, I am one of the two who have not heard the song…Absolutely beautiful, thank you! 

    Your in our prayers
    Judy & Dan
