Kid-isms from vacation…

img_8724.jpgOK, we learned a few things on vacation. I think these are my top two..

From J: He was impressed that the condo door and the outside scream door were the same color (did you catch that). He said the outside SCREAM door. Then he goes on to ask why they are called scream doors when they don’t really scream. Silly Dad, thinking all my life that they were screen doors. What was I thinking.

From Derek: He is smart and knows the proper names for his anatomy. However, on vacation, his brain took a little vacation as well. I am not sure how he got on the subject, but for all of you who thought that the “dots on your chest” were called nipples, you were wrong. They are actually called nimples. Just so you know.

Oh, I almost forgot, Derek thinks J is a petalogical liar as well… That was a new one on me!

Home Building 101

This past weekend, I traveled down to Tennessee to help my brother in law frame in an addition on to his house. Another of my brother in laws was also there. This is not the first time we have done this sort of thing. Seems like every few years, someone in our family needs a little more elbow room (don’t we all!!). So we get together and start building. I think this is addition #4 that we have done. The nice thing is that one of my brother in laws builds/remodels homes for a living. So he lets us know what to do and we go at it. This weekend, at any one time, there were only two or three of us working on the addition. We framed in the lower level, set floor trusses and sub-floor, and set garage and second level walls. It was hard work, but fun. Here are few pics from this weekend. The first one is how the back of the house was. Will keep you all updated and this project finishes up!

Tarzan to the Rescue!

This was our first weekend in I don’t know how long, we had free. No baseball games, no soccer games, no other events to keep us from YARD WORK!! This weekend, we tackled the flower beds and mulching. I must say, the finished product does look good! During the weekend, I kept hitting my head on some low hanging branches of some trees in my yard. It was driving me nuts. So, I get the saw and start hacking away.

During the investigation of one branch that I was eying up for potential dismemberment, I was bending the branch down. To my surprise, one of my boys snatched it from me. He proceeds to start swinging from it like it was a vine. I started to laugh and then took a trip down memory lane. I remember swinging from vines as a little kid and I loved it. So I let them have some fun. I hope this tree branch swing will give them a few days of fun, before I have to cut ‘er down!!

Here is a little video of today’s fun.
